October in Review with a small Columbus Marathon Report

I am happy to say that I am actually getting to last month's review in a timely manner.  Maybe I can get myself back on track with my blogging however only time will tell.

October 2016
76.63 running miles
2.02 walking miles
78.65 total miles

Current 2016 Stats
 555.01 running miles
 34.78 walking miles
 589.79 total miles

October wasn't too bad overall.  I had some bad runs and some really good runs but in the end I am grateful to have my health that gives me the ability to run!

Let me start with my bad run.  I ran the Columbus Marathon on October 16 and it was my worst run in October.  Trisha and I planned to run together for the duration of the 26.2 miles but my body had other ideas.  I was able to run through mile 10 but then I had to ask Trisha if we could walk a little bit at the end of the next few miles and she kindly agreed.  I considered turning off at the 1/2 marathon split but realized I needed to finish what I started and set an example for my children.  By mile 14 I sent Trisha on her way.  It was hot and I was struggling.  Right around this point I saw Dave on the course and had a bit of an emotional breakdown on his shoulder.  He talked me through it and I continued on my way.  Fast forward to mile 16 and I had yet another breakdown on Dave's shoulder and then pressed on.  After mile 16 my body would not let me run.  I would try and I would almost immediately have to slow to a walk again.  I would end up walking the last 10 miles of the marathon and developing awful blisters at mile 23.  I did manage to wog (walk/jog) across the finish line but it HURT!!  I am happy to report that Trisha ran a PR race despite my need to stop and walk earlier in the race!  I vowed after the marathon that I was retiring from that distance!  I am going back to my first love, the 1/2 marathon!!

Now for the good run.  I had the chance to meet up with my friend Joanna for a nice 8 mile run the last weekend in October.  The scenery of the Metroparks and the wonderful conversation made it a great run!  Breakfast afterwards was a nice little bonus as well!!

2014 Mission check-in

Mission #1: Make an effort to eat more fruits and vegetables.
Action Plan: Always have fruits and vegetables cleaned, cut up, and ready for consumption.
Action Plan: Choose healthier options when snacking.
Mission #1 is still successful.  I have good days and bad days with this one.  Halloween didn't help me here!!

Mission #2: Accept and embrace that my best is good enough.
Action Plan: Stop comparing myself to others and compare myself to the person I was yesterday.
Action Plan: Define my own success and measure it by what I am able to do.
Mission #2 is dead on!!

Mission #3: Run 1400 miles in 2014.
Action Plan: Run.
Action Plan: Run some more.
Mission #3 is most likely not going to happen since we have less than two months left in 2014.  It's okay though, if we don't set "missions" we don't try and succeed.  73.91 miles run in October (646.59 miles to go).
Mission #4: Run happy.
Action Plan: Run training runs and races with friends as often as I can.
Action Plan: Listen to my heart and not the beeps on my Garmin.
Action Plan: Be thankful that I have been blessed with a healthy body that allows me to run.
Mission #4 is golden! Love my running friends!!

With running friends at the Inland Trail 1/2 on Sunday

Mission #5: Do other workouts in addition to running.
Action Plan: Find workouts I enjoy and actually do them.
Action Plan: Participate in some monthly fitness challenges.
Mission #5 went well....sigh.....um.....I walked 5.11 miles....pathetic!!

Overall October was a decent month.  Looking forward to some more running!

October in Review

My 7 mile "Time of Day Tuesday" run brought my October running to a close.  I was originally going to run today but the neighbors I was planning to meet decided to cancel this morning due to the weather which I was perfectly fine with. There's always tomorrow!

2013 "to do list" check-in

2013 Running Goals
1. First and foremost 26.2 under 4 hours--enough said
-The best laid plans....a rough race and a finish time of 4:52....fail.....

2. Achieve a second sub 1:50 half marathon so I can remove the asterick from my current sub 1:50 PR
-I did run the RNR Cleveland 1/2 this month but sub 1:50 wasn't achieved there.  I am not sure that the opportunity to achieve this goal will present itself before the end of the year but I'm not counting it out just yet...

2013 Mini Running Challenges
1. Run 100 miles per month
-122.92 miles run in October.  Mission accomplished!
2. Run 1300 miles for the year
-111.89 miles to go to complete this challenge.

2013 Non-Running Mini Challenges
1. Cross-train at least twice a week
-Partial success and partial fail.  I did successfully complete the 30 day wall sit challenge this month.  In total I spent approximately 46 minutes "sitting on the wall" in October.  I didn't do any other cross-training during the month though.

2. Complete a jump rope workout every day
-Not a single jump rope workout completed. And...the trend continues...
3. Drink 50 ounces of water per day (based on my current weight, this is my daily water intake need)
-Done and done well.
4. Take my vitamins daily
-Vitamin taken every single day in October.
5. Continue to choose and cook healthier foods
-16 meals made in October.  I am very pleased with this one!
6. Learn to swim...better luck this year
-Ummmm.......yeah.......ummmm
October was great overall.  I enjoyed "time of day Tuesday", running for the "love of the run" and mixing in hills during my Sunday morning runs with the girls (and sometimes boys).
Amazing sunrise at the top of one of the hills during  my last long run for the month of October

October in Review...Happy Halloween

Yesterday's ten mile frosty run with Kim and Deb brought my October training to a close.  Apparently the golfers couldn't handle the frost.
Of course the frost had nothing on us runners!  We were already half way through our run when we encountered this sign!  A little frost wasn't going to stop us from getting our run in!

October 2011 Stats
83.2-- running miles
0-- elliptical miles
0-- bike miles
0-- spinning class miles
83.2-- total miles
0 minutes-- rope skipping
155.6-- weight as of October 31, 2011

Current 2011 Stats
1190.71-- running miles
17.8-- elliptical miles
15.86-- bike miles
55.8-- spinning class miles
1280.17-- total miles
1 hour and 55 minutes-- rope skipping

I am very pleased with my October training and am still experiencing the "runner's high" from Columbus Marathon Experience

For the first time in months I am not following a training plan.  I am just running to run and I am enjoying it.  I am looking forward to seeing what November has in store and I can't wait for our girls weekend to run the Rock 'N Roll Vegas 1/2 Marathon in December.  "What Happens in Vegas..."

HAPPY HALLOWEEN TO ALL!

My 1,000th Mile in 2010 and October in Review

At 10:35 AM this morning, my Garmin hit 10 miles indicating that I was about to run my 1,000 mile for 2010. Exactly 8 minutes and 20 seconds later my Garmin beeped as I reached the 11 mile mark of my long run which in turn indicated that I had achieved 1,000 miles run for 2010!! Yes, I gave that last mile my all!! To say this accomplishment means a lot to me is an understatement. I wasn't sure I would be able to hit 1,000 miles before December 31 when I started my 2010 training! In fact, when I started running again 1 year and 8 months ago I never imagined I would be where I am today! I am constantly amazed at what my body is capable of. I am forever grateful to have found my love for running again!

October Stats

122--- running miles
0--- elliptical miles
0--- bike miles
122--- total miles
151--- weight as of October 31, 2010

Current 2010 Stats

1,000--- running miles--Exactly 1,000 miles run in 2010!!!
52.9--- elliptical miles
5.1--- bike miles
1,058--- total miles

I am very happy with my October stats which included a 3 minute PR performance at the Detroit 1/2 Marathon but I have to say I am over the moon happy with my current 2010 stats! 1,000 miles run and done!!!

Happy Halloween!!
