I am happy to say that I didn't wait as long to get to my June in Review post.  I ended the month with 150 squats on June 30 to complete my monthly challenge!

2015 Mission check-in

Mission #1: Complete 6 monthly challenges
Action Plan: Find monthly challenges online.
Action Plan: Actually complete the monthly challenge.
Mission #1 was a great success in June!  I spent a lot of time squatting over the course of the month.

This was no easy task but I got it done!

Mission #2: Cross off at least 3 more states in Deb, Nikki, and I's quest to run a 1/2 marathon in all 50 states (we have 36 states left....we best get moving...we aren't getting any younger!!)
Action Plan: Research 1/2 marathons in the states we haven't completed yet.
Action Plan: Actually register and participate in said 1/2 marathons.

So far we have completed AL, AZ, FL, GA, IL, IN, KS, KY, MI, MN, NV, OH, PA, TN, and TX
Mission #2 had further progress in June.  We made a decision via email that we would cross South Carolina off our list of 50 in October.  Now to plan the trip which is always the fun part!!

Mission #3: Run 1000 miles in 2015
Action Plan: Run.
Action Plan: Run some more.

Mission #3 came in at 78.68 miles run for June (510.3 miles to go).  There were lots of great runs in June including a nice run in my hometown when we were there for a wedding recently.

Long Run Thursday with Trisha

5 Solo Miles in PA

Mission #4: Complete 4 stair workouts per month (*Edited in February to read complete an occasional stair workout*)
Action Plan: Do one stair workout per week.
Mission #4 didn't go at all in June either.  I really have no excuse other than I am constantly driving my children to activities.  The girls and I did volunteer at a race and while there were no stairs involved, it was still rewarding to give back!

The girls and I volunteering at the Park 2 Park 1/2

Mission #5: Cook more and eat healthier
Action Plan: Plan ahead with recipes and food prep.
Action Plan: Utilize my crockpot more often.
Mission #5 is going well.  The grill and summer salads have been utilized a great deal lately!

While June was a bit of a lower mileage month, I am still very pleased with what I accomplished!  July is off to a great start with some great runs with friends.  Looking forward to being part of a great team for the Kerstetter 5K on Saturday!  I just need to figure out how to run fast and not feel like I'm going to pass out!  I have earned first in my age group the past two years.  I am really hoping for a three-peat this weekend.  Only time will tell!!

An easy five mile run on Sunday with Missi and Cindy in the Metroparks and the final day of my 30 day ab challenge this afternoon brought my June training to an end.

2014 Mission check-in

Mission #1: Make an effort to eat more fruits and vegetables.
Action Plan: Always have fruits and vegetables cleaned, cut up, and ready for consumption.
Action Plan: Choose healthier options when snacking.
Mission #1 went much better in June.  I still had my days but I managed to eat a lot of fruits and vegetables and also cooked several well balanced meals for the family.

Mission #2: Accept and embrace that my best is good enough.
Action Plan: Stop comparing myself to others and compare myself to the person I was yesterday.
Action Plan: Define my own success and measure it by what I am able to do.
Mission #2 is definitely where it should be.  I am in competition with no one!!

My 2014 Motto

Mission #3: Run 1400 miles in 2014.
Action Plan: Run.
Action Plan: Run some more.
Mission #3 seems to have slowed down but that is okay.  62.04 miles run in June (912.42 miles to go).
Mission #4: Run happy.
Action Plan: Run training runs and races with friends as often as I can.
Action Plan: Listen to my heart and not the beeps on my Garmin.
Action Plan: Be thankful that I have been blessed with a healthy body that allows me to run.
Mission #4 is golden!  I am still loving the run and enjoying helping others meet their goals.  I helped some of the young athletes make it to the finish during the Girls with Sole run this month and I also volunteered at a 1/2 marathon a few weeks ago and it was so great to be able to give back.

Getting ready to run at Girls with Sole

Mission #5: Do other workouts in addition to running.
Action Plan: Find workouts I enjoy and actually do them.
Action Plan: Participate in some monthly fitness challenges.
Mission #5 went a bit better in June but not too much better.   I did get in 2 bike rides and I also walked .64 miles.  I did manage to complete my 30 day challenge for the month though so I am calling that a success.  I did A LOT of leg raises, crunches, sit ups, and planks.  I need to work on this mission more seriously for the month of July!!

This one was tough but I am pleased that I was successful!

Aside from the fact that I ran a lot less this month and didn't get too razy with the other workouts, I am still happy with June.  Afterall, I am still recovering from a marathon.

Keep running, you're simply the best, and you inspire me!!

June in Review

An awesome 16 mile run yesterday brought my June training to a close.  It was a wonderful run with great friends and a little one mile "race" thrown in the middle.  It was a perfect ending to June!
Just outstanding

Team "Infinity and Beyond" at the one mile race.  The team was created by Morgan (#214)

2013 "to do list" check-in

2013 Running Goals
1. First and foremost 26.2 under 4 hours--enough said
-Toeing the line on Sunday, September 15, 2013 in Erie, PA.  I am happy to report that training is going really well with a lot of help from my coach and friends.

2. Achieve a second sub 1:50 so I can remove the asterick from my current sub 1:50 PR
-I didn't run any 1/2 marathons this month so the opportunity to achieve this goal didn't present itself.  I did run a 5K (one day after a 14 miler) and then the one mile "race" yesterday.  Otherwise no other racing this month.

Girls with Sole Lula 5K

2013 Mini Running Challenges
1. Run 100 miles per month
-173.1 miles run in June.  It is obvious by this mileage that marathon training is in full swing!
2. Run 1300 miles for the year
-656.64 miles to go to complete this challenge.

2013 Non-Running Mini Challenges
1. Cross-train at least twice a week
-I failed big time at this one yet again.  I didn't do a single ounce of cross-training as I am back into the throws of marathon training.  I know I need to fix this one because I know it makes me a stronger runner.
2. Complete a jump rope workout every day
-Not a single jump rope workout completed.  The trend continues...
3. Drink 50 ounces of water per day (based on my current weight, this is my daily water intake need)
-This one is relatively easy when you have to hydrate for all of those marathon training runs.
4. Take my vitamins daily
-Somehow I missed 2 days in June.  Still pretty happy with this as in the past I would forget for weeks at a time.
5. Continue to choose and cook healthier foods
-7 meals made in June.  Not awful but certainly could be better.
6. Learn to swim...better luck this year
-Still looking for that luck.  Hopefully I find it sooner rather than later.

I am beyond happy with how June turned out and I am looking forward to what July has in store for me!

Keep running, you're simply the best, and you inspire me!!

June in Review

Somehow June got away from me as I didn't write one single blog entry the entire month.  I think it was a combination of the end of the school year and the kids' activities.  I didn't do a lot of workouts this month but I did fit them in when I could.

June 2012 stats
48.51-- running miles
6.2-- bike miles
0-- pool workout
0-- core fitness workouts
54.71-- total miles
154-- weight as June 30, 2012

Current 2012 stats
451.6-- running miles
12.2-- bike miles
1-- pool workout
56-- core fitness workouts
463.8-- total miles
154-- current weight

2012 "to do list" June check-in

2012 Running Goals
1. My number one running goal is to run a sub-1:50 half marathon
-I didn't even attempt this goal in June.  I seriously need to come up with a plan and commit to achieving this goal soon.
2. Secondary to the goal of a sub-1:50, I would like to attempt to run another marathon PR (sub-4:10:11) with a stretch goal of running a sub-4:00:00
-I have come to the decision that I am not going to run a full marathon this year.  With a goal of running a 1/2 marathon every month this year, I think it would be a bad idea to train for a full at the risk of getting injured.
2012 Mini Running Challenges
1. Run 100 miles per month
-48.51 miles run in June- a far cry from 100.  Oddly enough, I have come to terms with not achieving this challenge.  I'm just running to enjoy it right now.
2. Run a half marathon each month
-NCN Park 2 Park 1/2 Marathon (2:06:37)- This was a great half for June.  It was very small and close to home.  Missi and I ran the entire race together and both managed to place first in our age groups.  I was so busy this month that I didn't even get a chance to blog about it so here's a picture from the event.
2012 Non-Running Mini Challenges
1. Increase the amount of cross-training/strength training I do on a monthly basis
-1 cross training/strength training workouts done in June-  One 6.2 mile bike ride towards the end of the month.  I still need to work on this!!
2. Focus on choosing and cooking healthier foods
-13 well-balanced meals prepared in June- I will take it!
3. Drink more water
-I did an outstanding job with this in June.
4. I promised a certain someone that if they ran a marathon with me I would learn to swim so I intend to make good on that promise this year.
-I had a discussion about needing to take lessons while at our development pool.  Still need to make this happen.
Overall, June was a pretty decent month and I can't complain.  Bring on July!

Keep running, you're simply the best, and you inspire me!!

June In Review

Yesterday I ran 5 miles with four .30 mile hill repeats thrown in the middle.  This tough workout brought my June training to an end.

June started off quite nicely when I ran the LULA 5k with strep throat and managed to pull off a third place age group finish.
It turns out that I had more than strep throat.  In fact I was quite ill according to my doctor's findings.  I not only had strep but I also had an abscess on my throat.  I received this diagnosis the Monday after the 5K and was given strict orders not to run until Sunday.  I also left with some pretty hardcore antibiotics.  I was also advised to take probiotics and eat plenty of yogurt while on the meds.  I can honestly say I am still sick of yogurt and haven't eaten it since day 10 of my antibiotic.  The good news is that all of this rest turned out to be a blessing because, come Monday, June 13, I was more than ready to begin my Columbus Marathon training.

I will be finishing up week 3 of training on Sunday and so far things are going very well.  I also didn't hit 100 miles run in June; however I came pretty close even with taking a week off to get better.  I would call that a success.

June Stats

90.1-- running miles
0-- elliptical miles
0-- bike miles
55.8--  spinning class miles
145.9-- total miles
0 minutes-- rope skipping
156.8-- weight as of June 30, 2011
Current 2011 Stats
639.21-- running miles
17.8-- elliptical miles
.86-- bike miles
55.8--  spinning  class miles
713.67-- total miles
1 hour and 55 minutes-- rope skipping

Overall June was a good month and I'm looking forward to continuing my marathon training!!
